<>The River's Two Shores

<>In that night
Not just one person had swam across the river
On the other shore fire mounds crackled
The trees' shadows
Floated as if imperceptible
Someone spoke out loudly
All of the eyes silently shut

The Tree of Folklore all at once lost its leaves
The river was deep and serene
Whose eyesight could penetrate
Who believed sour dates and fishes' sleep-talk
On top of the precipice
Only mountain spirits
Chants that repeated again and again
Those people, soles dancing wildly
After trampling the withered tree roots
Suddenly halted
The flint was continuously struck
Many faces never could be made out clearly
In that night
Not just one person swam across the river
For a very long long time
The sound of arms paddling was passed on

A Wandering Yi

Below the moon sleep peacefully!
Those looking for dreams
Being far from one's homeland is determined by fate
The horse is very tired, it only has a body of dust
It is close to you

Having traveled very far
Why always in the eyes
Does a native village's bleak shadow emerge
Why always on the distant horizon
Does one stand facing the native village

The singing voice has gone mute
In some place, the tragic direction makes the heart retain
Besides songs and wine
Besides love and memories
You will not be able to find anything else

Yearning

On horseback riding over the highlands
The slopes full of buckwheat wash away the season's bitterness
Passing through thickets without words
The setting sun retracts vision

At this time, I am so full of yearning
To have a companion for a stretch of the journey
And merrily converse
When parting ways, shaking hands
Well-wishes and smiles hanging on the lips
Deepening affection

Much of the time, by oneself
Constantly reminiscing about those days full of joy
While in this place far from clamor
Many people are like me, quiescently
Traveling onwards
On the rugged skeleton of the Southern Highlands

The Olive Tree in a Dream full of Fruit

The olive tree in a dream is full of fruit
The fruit falls without a sound
Smelling the aroma of buckwheat ale, makes one want to drink
Upon drinking
One thinks of the affairs of the ancestors
They put images of fire and fate
Cut into the rock, and then
Facing the rock danced barefoot
Silently murmuring

Bitten by a wild boar the hunter lies on the hillock
Look at the fence at the bottom of the hill turning into arms
Shaking like long bitter vines of thorns
The setting sun
Dowsing women to become scarlet apparitions

Old people on the edge of death
See through the surroundings of emptiness
Spilling the last bowl of wine
Offering it to the mountain spirit
The coffins of the dead are placed on the water
Amidst prayers and songs
Drift away as a dream-soul

At a moment like this
Among the reddish brown dim of the Southern Highlands
It is impossible to say clearly
Whether the wandering clan belong to the sun or the stars
If one makes a gesture
A great deal of pain and pleasure
Could again be like smoke and clouds
