新中国当代观念水墨艺术 The Contemporary ideational Appreciating China-land of charm and beauty--the appreciative criticism to XingGang’s New Chinese Contemporary ideational Ink By Zhao Shulin(famous curator / artcritic) The Chinese civilization experienced several baptism on politics, culture, war, ethnicity, and even today’s capitalism and it was becoming more and more steady. Since 1978’s reform and opening-up, Chinese traditional society has opened the gate to the western modern world. As the worldwide economic integration acceleratedly developed and the ‘Modern Ink’ which appeared under the background of ‘85 thought of modern art’ was becoming a very important artist form in Chinese Art, the breakthrough of artistic conception and the combination of Chinese Ink and artist concept, skill, pattern of western modern art had found a meeting point. The exploration to the expression of modern China’s huge transition and the Chinese artists’ real life, as well as the their new transition in culture, has been becoming a new art form of Chinese contemporary ink. It is international, modern and oriental. Chinese ink comes from totem which left by ancient Chinese on rock (printmaking). Later, it developed into traditional ink of scholars of each dynasty and was being continued to develop by contemporary artists. Then, it came across the reform of experimental ink in the late 20th century. So we can see that Chinese Ink has entirely experienced three reforms with important significance. After the period of Experimental Ink, Chinese ink, which stands for Chinese art’s form, finally calmed down---it has something more than the manic splash-ink, the drained scribble and the endless expression. In early 21st century, another very important reform--- the reform of New Chinese Contemporary ideational Ink is coming . It meant that the forth reform of Chinese Ink had broken out. New Chinese Contemporary ideational Ink, as a new form of art which carried on the Experimental Ink and absorbed the essence of Chinese traditional art, appeared on the stage of history with other art forms. XingGang is one of the most representative artists of this field. New Chinese Contemporary ideational Ink not only borrow ideas from western contemporary art, but also inherited the traditional ink context successfully. It is developing with vitality. As a new art form, it has been closely concerned by the fields of academe, collects the widespread. XingGang is an artist of both scholar type and explore type. Since he graduated from Academy of Fine Arts, he has been holding on dealing with creation of art in an independent space of art, culture, religion and philosophy which created and decorated by his spirit, expressing his art dream intelligently and creating the most meaningful and valuable works by his hands and heart. he has been exploring his direction and destination of his art pursuit alone, not being influenced by the foam floating over the art field these years. XingGang is not only an artist but also an uncommon philosopher. Sometimes I was a little surprised to find that he is rarely lopsidedly think about and create works in a simple sight of a young man, as well as rarely describe his lost youth in realism feelings. Some period of time, when he exhumed and constructed his suitable, tender, negative, humanized ideal space of future, he only expressed his art values in a neutral, pute, indirect way with a philosophic thought of ‘nature and man being oneness.’ Although most artists in China today intend to pursue a rat-fuck art form to be their particular characters, XingGang, who has been well-educated, insist on thinking about the Chinese traditional culture’s profound connotation and its uniqueness. He is always insist on rejecting the blundering foreign elements, at most borrow some of them. At the same time, he insist on seeking a way to inherit Chinese traditional culture attribute and to find out a combination form of Western and Eastern, as well as a scientific method to think and create. Like what he said “Contemporary art is pioneer of all culture and trend, while the artists are explorers of that culture and trend.” It seems that Xing is entrusted with a special mission by art so that he is keeping moving ahead. Like a philosopher, XingGang considered the cultural specialties in the transforming time of China and emphasized on researching the exploration and thought of ‘objective reality’. What’s more, in his painting exhibit of 2008 which is themed by Red, the red he described is the color of China’s nation flag. It not only symbolizes the blood of Chinese martyrs and the heart of every Chinese man, but also symbolizes the blood of the nation and the whole nation’s enthusiasm. What all his paintings represent is some special spirit characteristics. They include the craze for art, the feelings for traditional religious culture and the worship for socialism. We can see some historical responsibility from his works. He like to choose the traditional materials, for example the Chinese Paper, which most people regard as a very old one. In this mind, the materials he love most like water and ink and Chinese Paper includes something special like live and death even the historical content and progress of creating and dying out. In the history of world art, there are many thousands of artists love to use five-point star in their works. They love it as a subject matter or as a pattern. But only XingGang divides them on sex. He firstly put forward the Mr. Five-point Star and Miss Five-point Star in his Ink work 《Miss Five-point Star---love》 in 2007. Five-point Stars are thought as some youngsters who are alive and have spirit and love and idea humanizedly. The Chinese Contemporary ideational Ink Miss Red of《Miss Five-point Star-Angel》 series were created in 2007. Modern, sexy high heels and the wings of angel compose the pretty Miss Five-point star, who are flying over the orectic sea. The seaspray is setting off the badge of Miss Red which stands for heroine. The Chinese Contemporary ideational Ink ----So More Charming was one of the most classic work of XingGang in 2008 to reflect the changing aesthetic appreciation. It expresses the artist’s love to China and his worship to the society. I think the significance of it doesn’t need to be said more. |
