陈健强:广州当代艺术的力量

  纵览全球,放眼神州,打开国门,中国入世,步入全球化,置身于全球直接竞争,当代艺术借势奥运的焰火,出现了天空行走的脚步,接着是海归们的回归,再就是广州三年展上提出“告别后殖民”的理念。如何去后殖民,“弄潮儿已在潮头立”,广州当代艺术界早已战略布局,成竹在胸。
  
  一直以来都是勇当先行者,敢为天下先的广州当代艺术界又一次领风气之先,在领悟了传统文化精髓后,广州艺术家早已渗透全球,以至于有游客到了美国后说:“美国居然还有一个小镇没有中餐馆”,正是这种无孔不入,无处不在的精神,使广州艺术家遍布全球各个角落,尽领悟欧美风骚。而且以前中国人去西方不被承认,现在全球承认我们,趁此形势,全球来看,为了改革中国当代艺术,广州当代艺术界适宜根据自身的优势资源,定好位,确立自身的发展战略。
  
  我们来看广州当代艺术界布局战略所具备充分的资源条件。
  
  其一、广州本土的艺术家我们叫做守望者,守望者具备改革创新姿态,使广州当代艺术界早已走出国门,名声外震。广州当代艺术包容性强,群众基础好,创造性强,力量大,产生众多艺术尖子。而艺术个人和团体也暗合了地域文化,深具开阔的视野和包容的性格。并且广州受各种意识形态少,地域文化中的平和,不作状,温和,质朴,容纳激进,孕育改革性。
  
  可以说,广州本土性也就是全球性。今天国情说明什么,说明中国当代艺术的发展空间即是世界当代艺术的空间,中国已成全球的主战场,全球聚焦着呢!聚焦点是中西的窗口,前沿地带,广州城无疑就是代表。既然现在世界聚焦中国,中国是全球的主战场,而广州又是中国对接世界的一个窗口,一个桥头堡,那么广州就具有全球性的视野,全球性的力量,它的一举一动将牵动中国及全球的鼻子,所以广州本土的当代艺术活动如果整合的好,产生的力量将无可限量,也将会把中国当代艺术史改动,把中国当代艺术的舵拔正。
  
  2002年广州举办首届“广州三年展”,至今三届三年展使广州当代艺术在国际艺术界声威大振,08年于广州更是提出了“告别后殖民”,所以说广州无疑是一个探索的重点地,这对广州本土当代艺术是个大好机会。
  
  其二、广州远征海外的艺术家深具改革探索优势。站在全球的高度纵览广州,广州是全国著名的侨乡,海外人口分布130个国家和地区,其中拥有众多的艺术家,我们把这些艺术家叫做远征艺术家,远征者释放着广州当代艺术的国际力量,相对本土守望者,他们有不同意识形态体验,不同文化传统的落差,有更为宽广的国际视野,又有本土的底蕴,这是远征者在文化生态上的优越性。而且当今的中国文化板块竞争激列,艺术发展快,市场波动大,以至没有国际参照系统,所以未来的发展极需指引。这样的艺术大环境也是中国当今各领域改革所遇到的问题,也就是为什么中国于广州首先进行第二次思想大解放的讨论,可以说这是风云激荡的年代,这是思想活跃的年代,大白话说,是未来的路子如何走。
  
  综合起来看,广州本土艺术的改革性,海外艺术的探测索性,广州当代艺术界各种层面是时侯来一个大战略了。所谓大战略——是广州本土拥有一个宏大的艺术界,广州海外也有一个艺术界,通过两个广州艺术界的整合,然后本土艺术界借势海外艺术界,海外艺术界依靠本土艺术界,两个广州联合做平台,并且于国外和国内产生裂变聚合效应,从而做中国海内外艺术界的平台,那么平台由广州做,规矩由广州立,广州就是中国当代艺术的先锋者。那么,广州当代艺术界于全国的地位就凸显出来了,有地位就能为改变中国当代艺术的现状做出探索,为中国当代艺术进行改革。

  大战略是为了探索未来的时代,未来的时代是需要当代艺术找问题,找思想,找观念,找视觉共识,试验未知的时代,也是想说,当代艺术的本质是理念先行,(是探索未知领域,这是当代艺术的核心价值之一)也是评判当代艺术的价值之首要。这极需远征者们带回新的思路,新的理念,新的作品,再跟本土艺术家碰撞,产生火花,而碰撞自古至今是能产生创新的。综合地说,本土的守望和海外的远征那怕只是一种并置,一种比较,从中产生碰撞的火花,也能升级广州艺术的理念探索,以促进中国当代艺术的全面反思。
  
  The Power of Guangzhou Contemporary Art

  Throughout the globe and focusing in China, we opened the door to the outside world and step into the globalization with the successful accession to the WTO, now China is becoming more and more competitive in the global competition.  In the Beijing Olympics in 2008, inspired by the Chinese artists’ creativity, the Olympic flame was lit by Mr. Li Ning through his excellent skywalk performance.  Nowadays, more and more returnees are coming back to China after their further studies, and the new concept of ‘farewell to postcolonial’ was put forward in The Guangzhou Triennial. All these facts are demonstrating us that Guangzhou Contemporary Art is ready to illustrate its power with the strategic disposition.
  
  Guangzhou contemporary art circle is always brave and courageous enough to take the pioneer role in the road of reform.  As always, Guangzhou artists are taking the initiatives again.  They are processing a global penetration after absorbing the apperception of the essence of the traditional culture.  Such a pervasive penetration provides the Guangzhou artists chances to develop and experience everywhere in the world.  In the past, the Chinese people are not easy to be accepted by the westerner, but the situation is changed now.  In order to seize the opportunity, Guangzhou contemporary art circle would better set the appropriate direction and set up its own development strategy to launch the reform of the Chinese contemporary art in the global perspective.

  In my opinion, the resources Guangzhou owns for the strategic planning for the development of the contemporary art circle are listed below:
  
  Firstly, Guangzhou local artists are the people who we called the watchers with the innovative and reformatory mindset; they are also the people who led the Guangzhou local art circle to the outside world and to win more reputations aboard.  With the strong inclusivity, creativity, power and stable mass basis, Guangzhou contemporary art has conceived numerous elites and talents.  While the individuals and the groups in art circle also absorb various regional cultures, they are inclusive ones of vision.  Influenced by all kinds of ideology and regional culture, Guangzhou art become natural, gentle, plain, inclusive and reformatory.
  
  Actually, Guangzhou’s localization is also a part of the globalization process, and China contemporary art is sharing the same development of space with the international contemporary art.  Nowadays, China is the main battlefield in the world with all the focus. Such focus is the frontier area between China and overseas countries, and Guangzhou is one of the most representative cities undoubtedly.  Therefore, with the global vision and power, every movement in Guangzhou will affect China and the globe.  Thus, the better integration of Guangzhou local contemporary art activities, the stronger power it will generate, which will also change and redirect the development direction of Chinese contemporary art.
  
  In 2002, Guangzhou first Triennial was held in Guangzhou, and totally there has been three Guangzhou Triennials till now which successfully promote Guangzhou contemporary art and gain the reputation from the international art circle. Therefore, ‘farewell to postcolonial’ is put forward in 2008, Guangzhou is undoubtedly the key exploration, which is also a great opportunity for the development of local contemporary art.
  
  Secondly, Guangzhou overseas artists have adequate advantages to explore and reform. Commanding a panoramic view of Guangzhou with the global perspective, Guangzhou is the national well-known hometown of overseas Chinese and has overseas population distribution in 130 countries and regions, including numerous artists whom we called expedition artists.  They are releasing the international power of Guangzhou contemporary art, compared with the local watchers, they have different ideology experience, different cultural traditions with the broad gap, and they also have more profound international vision and local culture, the above are the expedition’s advantages in the cultural ecology.  Furthermore, in nowadays, many factors, including the intense competition among the Chinese culture plates, fast development of the art, the market fluctuation and lack of international reference system, show that the future development needs the guidance.  Such environment for art is just the problem which the reforms in every field are facing in China.  It is also the reason why the discussion of the second thought libration has firstly been processed in Guangzhou.  It can be said, this is the time of reform and active thinking.
  
  Overall speaking, it is time to set up a grand strategy for the reform of the Guangzhou local art, the exploration of overseas art and different levels in the Guangzhou contemporary art.  What we call grand strategy is the integration of the Guangzhou local art circle and the overseas art circle.  In fact, local art circle needs the support from overseas art circle, while overseas art circle relies on local art circle, so if we combine these two circles as a platform will produce fission polymerization effect both in China and the overseas countries.  So, it is our goal to promote the status of Guangzhou contemporary art circle, to make Guangzhou as the platform of China and overseas art circles and also develop Guangzhou as the pioneer of the Chinese contemporary art.  Because, only when the status changes, there will be the ability to further explore the way to change the current situation of the Chinese contemporary art and process the reform for the Chinese contemporary art.
  
  The main strategy is for exploring the future, and the future needs the guidance of contemporary art to look for new ideas, thoughts, visual consensus and the other unknown. In other words, the essence of contemporary art is the antecedence of the philosophy which is to explore the unknown.  It is one of the core values of contemporary art and also the chief value judgment of contemporary art.  Therefore, it needs the expedition to bring the new ideas, new concepts and new productions.  And all these new things collide with the local artists, and there will be the collision sparks.  As we all may know, collision is capable of producing innovation since ancient time.  Overall speaking, colliding local watch with overseas expedition, even if it is only a kind of juxtaposition or comparison, the sparks generated from the collision between them will still upgrade the concept expedition of the Guangzhou contemporary art and promote the thorough reflection of the Chinese contemporary art.
